Dean Jones dies, heart attack in Mumbai



Former Australian batsman Dean Jones has died of a heart attack. He was 59 years old.

Dean Jones died in Mumbai. Jones was commenting during the IPL while living in Mumbai.

Star India issued a statement saying, "We are sadly saying that Dean Mervyn Jones AM is no longer in the world. Our condolences are with his family and we are ready to help him in every possible time." The Australian are in touch with the High Commission and are making all necessary arrangements.

"Dean Jones was one of the greatest ambassadors of the game. He was always at the forefront of discovering and grooming new talent. He was a champion of commentary, his presence and presentation won the hearts of millions of fans."

Dean Jones is one of Australia's greatest batsmen. He played a total of 52 Tests and 164 One Day matches in his illustrious career.

His 210-run innings played in Madras in 1986–87 against India is one of his most memorable innings. While playing in the midst of scorching heat, Jones's health began to deteriorate, but he continued to play. He had to be hospitalized after the match.

Ravi Shastri, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, wrote on Twitter, "I am shocked to lose my cousin and a dear friend. Dean Jones left very quickly. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace."



Paying tribute to the captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli wrote on Twitter, "I am shocked to hear the news of Dean Jones's death. His family and friends have the strength to bear it."



IPL team Chennai Super Kings tweeted, "The news of the death of Dean Jones has shaken us. This is a huge loss for cricket. Condolences to his family. May God rest his soul."

Dean Jones was also known for his great commentary in addition to great batting. He commentated in many international matches. He was also commenting in IPL this year. However, during the commentary, he was also accused of racism once. In 2006, he called Hashim Amla of South Africa a "terrorist" during a match.
